This year’s Sound City + conference will take place on Friday 4th May 2018 at the British Music Experience in Liverpool’s historical Cunard Building, hosting a day of panels, workshops and InConversations from a wide range of industry professionals.
The annual Sound City + business event is the UK’s leading independent conference for new music – founded to champion the rich and diverse creative output of the North of England, in particular, but welcoming and celebrating exciting artists and leading executives from all over the world every year.
Sound City conference attendees will descend upon the British Music Experience, which tells the story of British music through costumes, instruments, performance and memorabilia, all housed in the iconic, grade II listed Cunard Building on Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage Site waterfront.
The Cunard Building is a fitting venue for Sound City +. Completed in 1917, it was a hub of emigration throughout the 18th and 19th Century and therefore a key contributor to Liverpool’s historical and present-day status as a creative exporter and a melting pot of music, culture and business from across the globe.
Liverpool has played its part in history as the gateway to the global market on many levels, from trade and industry to the British music invasion of the 60s. Sound City+ is a solid base of exports and imports for the British music industry today.
Following on from the success of the past decade which has hosted keynote speakers including Black Ice, Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), Edwyn Collins (Orange Juice), plus in conversations with Justin Hayward-Young & Freddie Cowan (The Vaccines), Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), The Wombats, Everything Everything, Julian Cope (The Teardrop Explodes) Gruff Rhys, Bastille, Gabriella Cilmi, Viv Albertine (The Slits), Scott Booker (Hellfire Records), Mark E Smith (The Fall), in 2018 Sound City will raise the bar yet again, with Sound City+, featuring more incisive speakers, discussions, and opportunities for delegates to meet the great and the good of the international music and digital industries.
