In case you missed it, Baltic Creative CEO Lynn Haime recently featured on the ‘People of the Pool’ podcast! Sophie Wilson of PR agency, Tuesday Media, founded the podcast to celebrate innovation and entrepreneurship in Liverpool City Region. Earlier this year Lynn (and puppy, Elsie) met up with Sophie to record episode 10 of the podcast.

Lynn Haime, CEO of Baltic Creative.

Setting the scene

Sophie started by asking Lynn about Baltic Creative’s role in the regeneration of the Baltic Triangle. Lynn talks about her impression on returning to Liverpool having worked away. In her view, the city’s ‘moved on’ from past challenges, particularly the Baltic which was once designated as a red light district.

While Elsie snoozed, Lynn and Sophie chatted about the origins of Baltic Creative. Lynn painted a picture of our buildings and the surrounding area for anyone who has yet to visit. She said it’s an area filled with ‘community’ and ‘collaboration’. Sophie, a tenant in Basecamp at the Creative Campus, agreed:

We love it because we’re in PR and marketing but [Basecamp] has UX designers, graphic designers, developers – and we can bounce ideas off each other. The collaborative workspace is so alive as soon as you walk into Baltic Creative but being situated in that greater environment … is great. We love bringing clients there because it’s such a talking point.

Lynn’s journey and future plans

Lynn also spoke about her experience as a woman in property, a traditionally male-dominated industry. She shared an eye-opening statistic from her degree course that out of 60 students, only five were women and only two of them went on to a career in property. Despite being outnumbered in many situations, Lynn carved a successful career in the industry, doing the unexpected and making an impact whenever possible. Before they wrapped up, Sophie asked Lynn about the future plans of Baltic Creative:

This year we’ve got the same challenges everyone is facing. The ideal is there will be a growth phase. We’ve got demand that outweighs supply and there’s nothing more frustrating for me than getting new enquiries and having no space to offer them … Hopefully when the economy is recovered we can look at where the next phase will be.

You can listen to Lynn’s full interview on Spotify or watch on Youtube. Other guests include founder of MerseyMade Vicky Gawith, Sue Finnegan of Culture Liverpool, Jonny Clark founder of Startup Grind, and CEO of Kuumba Imani, Michelle Charters.
